The short answer
DMUN, short for Discover Model United Nations, is a youth-led, non-profit foundation that makes diplomacy education free for every student and gives children and youth a real voice in the United Nations system. Founded in 2021, DMUN has grown into a community of 27,284 members across 172 countries and territories, and it is the first youth-led organisation to be accredited in over 62 intergovernmental entities and meetings.
What the name means
The name began with the Foundation’s flagship programme, Discover Model United Nations, a free online Model UN conference created so that cost would never keep a student out of diplomacy education. Today “DMUN” refers to the wider DMUN Foundation: a non-governmental organisation that runs free educational programmes, produces youth-led research, and advocates for young people at the United Nations and other intergovernmental bodies.
What makes DMUN different
- Every programme is completely free. There are no fees, ever.
- It is youth-led: young people run its Secretariat, deliver its statements and govern its bodies.
- It works inside the intergovernmental system, delivering statements at the UN General Assembly, ECOSOC, the High-Level Political Forum, climate conferences and treaty negotiations.
